My 2 pekin hens are 8 month old and have never laid an egg.there wattles and combs have been red a while now.during the past week the cockerel that they live with has started mating with them.will this make them start laying eggs?here they are at 10 weeks old

The cockerel's mating with them won't start the egg production. I have found the cochins (pekins) to be a bit slow to start laying sometimes. I wouldn't be concerned if they are healthy. They are a very broody breed, and when they go broody they will likely stop laying as well.

x2. My Cochins don't start early either. Your hens combs, to me, aren't really saying they're ready to start (unless maybe the picture isn't current). My bantam Cochin is laying right now, and her comb is bright red.
