I got two zebra finches about 8 month ago, and they had 3 babies. Two of the babies have paired up leaving the third without a partner. Is it advisable to introduce an outside finch into the group, so that she may have a partner?

I am planning on finding the newest pair a new home, as there has been some fighting recently amongst the babies and amongst the babies and the parents. Thanks for your help!

No. You can have odd number of finches. What you need to do is have an extra nest, so that the odd one also have a place to be safe in. If you are letting the pair you will keep hatch again, you may end up with another extra and that may solve your dilemma. I had finches many of them, many years ago and I never worried about the pairs being in even numbers. Actually the more they are, the less of a dilemma it is.

You also may want another bloodline so your not breeding brother to sister. If you have 2 unrelated pairs then you could take a male from 1 pen and add it to a hen from the other and that will give you unrelated birds. And that will give you a 3rd bloodline.
