My young hen laid her first two eggs this week on Monday and one on Tuesday. But nothing today. This is my first hen to lay. Should I be worried that no egg was laid today? I thought I read something about prolapse??? I just thought once they start laying they pretty much continue for a year or so.

Nothing to worry about, most chicken breeds only lay three or four eggs a week, except for the really good layers like leghorns and sex links who can lay six or seven eggs a week, but they always take a break too. They don't lay an egg every day once they start laying, they have days off :)

I am a total hatchaholic. Got a batch in the incubator right now. Did you have any questions I could help with?

Great! The kids and I would like to hatch 6 chickens and 6 ducks. We will do each set individually. I am willing to spend upwards of $150.00 on an incubator. Any thoughts on which one to buy?

Yep! If you want an incubator you can set and forget and makes hatching really easy, go with a Brinsea. I have a Brinsea Eco 20 with an autoturn cradle and it is my favorite incubator of all time. I got mine used here on the forums for $150, but new they'd be a bit over $150. You could get a Brinsea Mini for in your budget but it has a small capacity and can only hatch about seven eggs at a time. Hovabators are also nice and have a larger egg capacity, but they are more finicky than Brinseas and require more babysitting. They are one of the cheaper Styrofoam type incubators. I've also heard really good things about Janoel incubators but I don't have much experience with them myself.
