Charming Chicken House

Thank you for the compliments. I think you could make it look nice as well. Though, again, the time it takes to work with pallets is very laborious and consuming.

I have 3 built in nest boxes and have a 4' shelf that could be used as well. And yes I agree with you that there is no need for that many nests. It is more for the aesthetics than practicality. I personally use 1 nest box for every 4 hens in my set up.

To be totally honest this coop is based off of my concept for a southern area back yard chicken wrangler that free ranges like myself. But given the much colder winters and the foxes in the area here I will have to add to the coop in the run area I am going to set up. I'm thinking of running the pallet wood vertically like it is on the house to "box things in a bit". And make a large run.

More to come next week as I have some long work days ahead.

An update finally. I was able to get three more crates. Really good wood this time. I have enclosed 3 sides leaving an opening out back for a run. Final placement will depend on where the family wants it. It is heavy but the top hen house being separate is great and makes it easier to move.

So an update. I have not sealed or stained the pallet wood yet. The last 3 days of rain have swelled the wood exceptionally. As soon as we get 2-3 days of dry weather I will stain and seal. Pallet wood loves to grow with moisture. More so than anything I've worked with before. Wow! Inside is perfectly dry and clean so it's doing what it's supposed to at least.
