No foam when pressed male japanese quail and italian quail

How old are they? They don't make as much foam when very young. They can start as young as 6 weeks but typically more like 9+ weeks for foam production.

If there is no foam they may not be in breeding condition. In the dead of winter there is no need for foam production. A sick roo will not produce much foam. If the rooster just bred a hen there will be little foam left. Sometimes just popping out some poop will take a good bit of foam out with it. Stress can also cause a quail roo to have little to no foam. Stress can be just moving to a new cage, new cage mates, new quail in the cage next to his, something upsetting him at night like predators lurking, etc.
