My father in law came home with 8 chicks about 4 weeks ago. He has bought them from our local tractor supply. They didn't know what breed type they were and they were unsexed. We now know that we have three roosters out of that batch, but I am wondering if there is a way to know what breed our roosters are. I do not have pictures at this moment of them. They are mostly white with some brown feathering. Im just curious as I can be!!! Thank you in advance!!

Unfortunately, ID'ing birds without being able to see them is not that easy so photos are going to be key. What type of comb do the birds have? What color are their legs? Where on their bodies is the brown feathering? Is it on their wing bows with the rest of their body being white? What characteristics have made you certain that they are male?
My first thought would be that they could be Red Sex Link cockerels - though most farm stores tend to order those in pullet only and there is not an "oops" factor where you end up with cockerels because they are sexed at hatch by color due to being sex links (boys hatch white, girls hatch red)

Once i am able to get the best photos possible of them i will more than gladly post so i am able to know more. My father in law is the one who told me that they are roosters, sinceI have never been around chickens before and he grew up taking care of chickens. So i am going off what he has said. But to me it is pretty obvious to my knowledge. Two of the three have brown on the wing bow. The other is pure white, they have orange legs. The store had said they received an unmarked box with no info on the chicks. I will post photos once i have better daylight. Thank you for you help so far. :)

Also what do you mean by what kind of comb do they have? I am brand new this, and agreed to help my father with the chickens which has been exceptionally fun, and interesting to learn so much about them.

There are many types of comb on the various breeds, walnut, rose ,pea, straight, cushion etc. Put comb types in the search box and you should find some photos or drawings of examples. Certain types are required by a breed's Standard of Perfection (for show).

Trying to ID chicks without pictures in somewhat like shooting in the dark. If you can get some pics of them posted, we'd be happy to take a look at them for you. Good luck in getting your pics posted.

[/IMG][/IMG] sorry my photos weren't showing up on my computer. so i had to do it off my phone which would not allow to put more than one photo on one. but anyway this guy is all white not any other coloring of the feathers i see. The other two are mostly white with brown feathering towards the end of their wings. They do have a single comb. if anyone knows what possibly they could be that would be great. And if we are wrong that they are not male let us know. Thank you
