2015 Peafowl Hatching Support Group - Eggs and Chicks!

Pics
I've google images of Green peachicks at at hatch out of curiosity because this egg had a "G" label. I can't tell but regardless it looks big to me.

I definitely don't think it's normal.

I don't know anything about peas so maybe I shouldn't even comment but my purebred silkies hatch like that and alot die in the shell because they have been bred to have a vaulted skull. And they look just like that! Do any pea breeds have vaulted skulls? Is the bp hard or soft to touch?

I have 2 eggs pipped from my ones set on June 7th. All my 6th ones died as all were incubator eggs except one. My broody pushed the good egg out from under her right at hatch and I think it got too cold, but it was an assisted hatch due to malposition. :(

My eggs almost always hatch on day 27. We see/ hear the internal pip on day 25, and usually the external on day 26. On day 25 I candle and tap the eggs with my fingernail, I talk to them and peep at them ( hubby thinks I'm nuts) if they have pipped internally they usually peep back at me, and then I know for sure they made it into the air cell. I do not assist if they haven't made it into the air cell, it just never has a happy ending if I do. If they have made it into the air cell, 24 hours until air hole, and another 24 to unzip, or I'm peeling.

Thank you for this post! This is exactly what I was looking for! Great info!!

Sage hatched out 4 of her 5 peachicks. She wins hatching with an 80% hatch rate while I only had a 62.5% hatch rate. They are so cute! I know she will be a great mom.

The eggshells from the nest. I collected all the eggs. The County Fair is coming up soon and I hope to put all 8 peacock eggs from this years hatching season in a show case and show them off. The theme this year is find your fun, and this is so far the most fun I've had of the year.

I love this photo since you can see all 4 peachicks and she's in it.

She never took her eyes off of me.

She hisses at me and then she sits on them when I start to get to close. Wonder how tonight will go when locking them up inside. I hope I don't get attacked. If so I can post a picture of what happens if you test a mother with babies.

They are so tired. The 4th is in her breast feathers.

Congrats Birdrain!

I am not having much luck. Had two pipped, went out at 3 and one had hatched, lovely little baby, the other pipped but no progress from this morn.

Just went to do a check, mom had her foot on baby's neck in a freak accident and had strangled it. :(. Such a pretty fluffy baby with kind of unique coloring too.

On the good side, other baby had hatched and is now drying under my silkie in the house. I will watch her thru the night to make sure she accepts baby. Dang, I thought I had two lovely peababies, the poor thing.

Also I cannot get my 10 day old to eat. Usually with s momma chicken they do ok, I don't know what to do! Only will eat bugs! I have to catch enough June bugs to keep her going. I have tried all the normal stuff, anyone have any bizarro ideas? She should have been hatched under a free range peahen for sure. :(

Refuses crumbles, mash, warm oats, dry oats, boiled egg, scrambled egg with cheese, plain cheese, bread.
She will sip at milk and frosted flakes just a slight bit. I am at my wits end and her poops are watery with no substance.

Well I have a weird situation. One of my eggs is externally pipped. I candled and it wasn't moving and I was afraid it had died so I carefully opened the pip a little to check. The chick is alive in there, and is externally pipped, but NOT internally pipped. Not quite sure what to do here - should I internally pip it? It's a weird situation. I was thinking about doing it, but it looks like there's still a lot of active blood vessels above where it would need to internally pip. The other egg I have in there is not internally or externally pipped. It's day 25 for the eggs.

How long had it been pipped? If there are still blood vessels then it's not ready yet.

No clue. The power went out for a couple hours so I wasn't opening the incubator and letting heat out. I just don't know how it externally pipped without internally pipping.
