My chicks are about 6-7 weeks old and they're getting too big for the inside. My friends chicks are about the same age and he has had them outside for 2 weeks or more now. No problems. It's a lil chilly in Maryland. Supposed to be in the 40's tonight. What should I do?

Yes. They've been off heat for about 2 weeks now. They've just been inside my house which is usually 70-73.

Are they fully feathered?

70-73 down to 40 would be a shock for them so I would either out them out for a few hours each day for a week to acclimatise them before moving them fully outside in a week or you could move them into a unheated or less heated garage for a week before you move them outside. :)

I agree with mingirl. I let them run around outside for awhile while I do outside chores. Let them get used to it a little more each day. If they have their feathers they will get used to it pretty quick. The first few times out on grass is pretty funny to watch!

Thank you guys!! I just brought them back inside but they weren't happy lol. I've been letting them out almost every day for 3 weeks now, and I think they're def getting a taste for outside. They love it.

My easter egger and buff lace polish are basically fully feathered but my mottled cochin is not. I'll try to attach a picture
