Where do you store your chicken boots?

Just wondering what all of you do with your chicken/work boots when you come in from making the rounds in the coop?

I will mention that I grew up on a farm and had a "mud room" at the back door perfect for the job, but in my current home have no such luxury. Our coop is inside another building and large enough we will have to be walking in to feed/water the chickens on a regular basis... Plus my nine year old son is enjoying getting in the run and hand feeding them. I am considering storing our boots inside the door of the little barn and changing shoes/boots there, but winter time could prove that a bit cold. I can see the advantage of a smaller coop where you don't need to get into it to care for them.

We have a deck outside the back door, but no shelter there to keep the boots dry and it would be difficult in the rain and snow, thinking cold/wet feet/shoes would likely happen. I'm also not too excited about the poop being carried on our boots up onto the deck.

Part of me is thinking I should have gone the cheap route and got garden shoes or fake crocs to slip on just inside the barn door. That would be x3 then for the rest of the family.

This is what I did. I have slip on garden clogs (no snow here) and I just kick them off at the back door.

Oh gee, I need more coffee. I read that and thought, "But my chickens don't wear boots."

Lol!!!

We have the lifestyle where boots or shoes stay on the porch. Honey has nailed some 2x4s to the edge of the porch and we slip our boots on them upside down. Keeps the rain out of the boots, and the soles get a free wash when it rains lol.

and.......given your location, slugs, lol. My sister is fanatical about her fear of those Oregon slugs gettin in her boots

Our mud boots and my summer chore shoes (as tennis shoes become less "go to town" condition they rotate to chore status) all sit on the back porch right beside the door for east slipping on and off.

I bought a boot tray at TSC so whenever I come in I put my muck boots on there. It does mot make as much of a mess but it saves the cleaning.

Thanks everyone for your comments back. We are talking about storing our boots inside the door of the barn and changing when we need to during most of the year. Come winter, we will likely keep the boots inside the back door and just deal with the mess on a boot mat.

I had to laugh that a few of you were struck by the title of this thread. My chickens don't wear boots either. :)
