If I wanted to supplement my flocks diet with some seeds and grains, what do you suggest? I just gave them a few black oil sunflower seeds tonight but they really are in poor shape. I am feeding Nutrena Naturewise crumbles, giving red cell in their water but just wanted to throw them a handful of grains and seeds everyonce in a while. Any suggestions other than BOSS?

Most feed stores should have a scratch grain mixture. It is much easier then buying a lot of different grains and mixing it your self. Some mixes have just a few grains and others have many. Most mixes have the basic three grains, corn, wheat and oats. You can buy those and other grains, like a millet, separate and mix it. I would ask at the feed store what they have. Chickens will eat just about any grain.

Scratch grains is a mix of different grains that birds find very attractive. I have occasionally tossed in some wild bird seed. Both are high in fat (like most grains), so small amounts are best. You could also give them some oats or oatmeal. When feeding whole grains be sure to offer granite grit to allow proper digestion.
