Coop flooring question

Hello, all!

We are finishing our coop and have 4 week old chicks needing to be out there soon. (3 BO, 2 EE). My question concerns coop flooring. I've looked at various threads but haven't seen any posts about hardwood flooring like you put in a house. We have a lot of scrap pieces of tongue-and-groove hardwood flooring left over from our home remodel and I'd like to use them in the coop. Would they be ok if they were tightly joined? I'll have pine shavings on top of the wood. I've attached a picture of our coop, but since the picture was taken I have painted all the bare wood with exterior paint as well as the inside of the coop. A local man built it with wire flooring in the coop and we are doing some additional retrofitting. We are currently finishing the vents on all sides, and will be putting concrete pavers in the run with bedding over that.

Thanks for any input. I am new to chickens, but have done about 3 years of homework while we were moving twice. We love our chicks and are so excited. This site has been the best resource of all!

Thank you! We really do like it out at the end of our garden. The chicks are so much fun already.

I was thinking the same thing. We used the Blackjack on OSB flooring and it made a million sharp splinters still stick up so we just covered it with some cheap roll vinyl from Lowes. So now it's double water proofed. I use wood shaving on top off that for easy clean up and I love the smell of the wood shavings.

I am a rookie and in the process of building an 8 x 16 coop with a run the same size. My thought about the hard wood floor idea is this, if your product is like the laminate floors I am familiar with, when they do get wet they have a tendency to curl up which would allow even more liquid to get in between the pieces compounding the problem. I like the linoleum idea.
