Hi there!

My name is Hannah Nichole Matthews. I have been raising chickens for 2 years, and have 15 chickens at the moment in my free range flock. An assortment of Buff Orpingtons, Australorps, Amber Stars, and Brahmas. Now that I have joined I hope to share some of my knowledge and experience, and learn a lot here on Backyard Chickens!

I breed with Buff Orpingtons, and currently have 1 rooster and 6 hens. I love them, they are such fluffy, beautiful, friendly chickens. My favorite breed so far! I like to raise my chickens from chicks, as then they are tame when they grow up. It's also super fun to watch them grow and feather out!

Anyone else have Buffs? Do you love them too?

Glad you could join the flock! That's a lovely picture there in your intro. I don't have buff orpingtons but I know @Mountain Peeps has them. Maybe you would like to chat to her about them. I have read all good things about them. I too have raised all my polish from chicks barring one roo and you can really see the difference in how friendly they are. I love raising chicks it's very rewarding I find and lots of fun. I'm just getting ready again to get my incubator on and some more polish set in it. I have about 30 eggs ready to go in.

We have three BO in our current flock (Nugget, Fat Amy and Mrs. Patmore) and adore them. They are the one breed that we currently have in which every bird of that breed is friendly - Nugget is actually my son's favorite chicken and very much HIS pet.
 
Nice to meet your Hannah, it's very hard NOT to like Buff Orps. My friend only got rid of hers because Holly morphed into a rooster He loved to sit on her shoe while she swung her foot back and forth.

Buff orpingtons are my all time favorite breed! I love them to bits! I have three named Daisy, Sunny and Gracie. They are just so sweet and docile. I love the pic you shared of one of your's! She is lovely!
 
Welcome to BYC, Hannah. Glad you decided join our flock. I've had all of your breeds at one time or another over the past 50 years, and you have a wonderful mix of calm and gentle breeds. I still have Buff Orpingtons in my flock and love them. My children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) made lap pets out of them as well as our Australorps, Cochins, and Brahmas.
