Hey y'all, I'm not sure where to post this, but here goes...

I've heard that they're banning the sale of poultry in NC from Aug-Jan...is this true? I've also read that it is a myth...
Just hoping some experts will say it's just a rumor and I'm not actually doomed...I have sixty chicks to sell by then, and most of them are roosters, so keeping them is NOT an option

15 roos is where I draw the line...
So, anybody out there to say that this isn't actually happening? Cause that'd be great! I don't mind keeping as many hens as I've got...but I've sold a bunch of pullets and have mostly cockerels left :-(
Thanks in advance for any input!

I too would love to know the answer to this. I heard it as well. It has to do with AI going around. However, AI hasn't actually been found/reported in NC yet.

Good luck selling your chicks! What breeds?

Auctions, swaps and shows have been cancelled in about 75% of the states, trying to stop the spread of Avian Influenza. Poultry can not be hauled across state lines with out current health certificates.

However, I don't think anyone will get into trouble selling chickens out of their backyard.

There are several threads about Avian Flu on this site. A good one to read is

Destruction and disposal order HELP. Just full of info.

I have Silkies and Sizzles...I have a flock of fifty breeder birds concisting of Polish, Cochins, Seramas, and mostly Silkies. Have sold everything except about forty Silkies. Chicks. I'm keeping my breeders, lol!

You need to check your specific states's Department of Agriculture website and see exactly what the restrictions are for your state. Far better to do that than take the advice of who-know-who off the internet.

We live in NC and it's not a rumor. All shows and public sales banned from Aug 15 till Jan 15

I recently read that it's just PUBLIC sales, and that PRIVATE sales are fine? Anyone else heard this?
