I just bought a dozen mdf's hatching eggs but Im just wondering if there are different rules from hatching normal sized eggs? I've hatched silkies and they worked out fine but I'm I really need this hatch to go out fine so asking for some advice
I have a small group of hens that I started out my chicken hobby with about 2.5 years ago. 2 Lavender Orpingtons and 2 Easter eggers. All but one of these hens lays good sized eggs. Just one of the Orpingtons.. she still lays small eggs the size of a hens normal first egg and it always has a...
We have 6 girls, 3 Australorps and 3 ISA Reds all under 1 year old. They were all laying this fall, and the Australorps started molting early winter and so their egglaying (as expected stopped).
Now I get 2 to 4 eggs a day, but today I found a teeny tiny egg (17 grams) our typical egg is 50-70...
Update!!!
November both chickens started laying eggs😊
Still unsure about the breed, pretty sure it’s a crossbreed of some sort though. We get creamy to white colored eggs about the size of a golf ball.
They both have pencil markings on their backs but one has feathery legs and the other doesn’t...
Well, Folks! We did it! We raised all 30 birds with no losses except for one! I’d say that’s pretty good! And we got our first two eggs today! Are eggs usually pretty small when they first start laying? Or are these from my silkies? (The white egg is for comparison of a normal egg)
All 4 of our baby girls are laying eggs. From broody hen mom to big girls showing off their "girly-ness". I thought being first eggs they should be small, these are too small and just too cute to cook. Will my girls ever lay eggs that are closer to normal size eggs. In the picture they are 4...
So my pullets, which are about 20 weeks old, are laying the most adorable little eggs and I'm so excited as more of them come into production. They are EEs and BLs. But I'm wondering how long does it take, typically, before these cute little baby eggs become full-size big-girl eggs? What's been...
I'm desperate for more blue and green Layers as well as Black Copper Marans. The Farm where I live just bought six green layers at POL to directly compete with me for the niche I found in the local egg market. :he So much for a friendly supportive family farm environment. :( I’m considering one...
Iv'e noticed something in the new guineas, they started to lay eggs but these eggs are smaller than usual, also the older fowl stopped laying eggs!
i got about 36 eggs in the incubator but will they hatch at all?
please help me!
I fed my chickens this as a treat and half of their eggs had a lot of poop on them, three were very small and strange markings in three others. All in the pictures including the treat.
Thanks,
Shelby
Hey ya'll. Sorry, new, still clueless and learning..I'm trying to figure out what I want from my future flock of chickens and I think what I really want is eggs I can't buy at the store, tiny, blue, green, speckled, just unusual eggs. I'm allowed 4 hens..I think I would like one to lay tiny pink...
So one of my hens laid her very first egg and I am really happy and excited. But I have 2 questions:
1- The size of the egg is much smaller compared to the other eggs. Is it normal for a hen to lay smaller eggs first?
2- Can we expect a hen to go broody after her first egg? If yes then how to...
I have 2 barred rocks who are now 5 months old. I know at least one of them is laying because we have found a couple of eggs. The eggs are always laid in the same nest box too. The hen stays in there for a while, then the egg comes and she leaves. Today, after I checked to see if she was out of...
I have about 15 hens and over the last two months or so, I've noticed that the hens are laying smaller and smaller eggs. These are full-sized chickens that are two to three years old. Does this signal something missing in their diet? They used to lay eggs that ranged from large to extra...
This perhaps very well may be my last allowed uploaded photograph.
So I will use this thread to share a personal photo of the odd sizes of eggs we have collected the last year. I usually place the weird ones In the freezer for conversation pieces.
Note that I placed a penny next to the smallest...
