04/15/24: Chicks are 4 Weeks Old.

These are my chicks from my first ever batch hatched. Their father is a Buckeye and their mothers are Silver Laced Wyandottes, Speckled Sussex, and Black Copper Marans.

This thread will be to show updates on how this batch is doing and to track their growths. New updates will be posted each week on Mondays. Stay tuned for more chick pictures and discussions!

They are all growing nicely and out if the 12 I believe only 4 are cockerels, so that is a good ratio.

I am surprised that I could get them to stand for a picture. Which chick is your favorite of them all?

He does have pretty coloring, I bet he grows up into a really handsome guy.
I bet so! I will keep updates going on these guys! I take a picture of every chick each Monday. (Except for my buff orpingtons and sex links because they weren't hatched, I bought them to add new breeds/genetics to my flock.)

04/22/24 Chick Update! 5 Weeks Old

Here is an update of my first ever batch of chicks I hatched. They are currently 5 weeks old and are growing nicely!

I believe I have 5 or 6 cockerels in the batch, which we cannot keep, so those will have to go to a new home.

I am happy with their growth, one of the cockerels are out-growing my buff orpingtons who are around a week older than them! I think he will be a big one.

My plans at the moment are to keep these chicks in the brooder until they are 8 weeks old, the earliest I can deworm them. Then I will deworm them and then put them in an enclosed area in my big chicken coop and let them get used to eachother for a week or two and then integrate them together.

Does anyone have any tips for integration of these chicks?
