Hey! I got 6 silkie chicks from ideal poultry and they are 4 weeks old.
I know it’s hard to say for sure with silkies but does anyone see any strong possibilities that any of these could most likely be one or the other?

The single buff chick I have has no leg feathers but is the LARGEST one out of the bunch. Could it be a hen? Does size not have anything to do with it? I have picked a runt chick out of a batch before and it ended up being a roo 😆 so I feel like it’s not a factor in sexing them

The tiny single black chick is my favourite, doesn’t have a ton of feathers on its legs, I feel like it could be a hen, hopefully? It’s very shy as well, quiet

The two white ones - one has really feathered legs while the other one has less feathered legs- I’m guessing maybe the less feathered one is a hen? The very feathered leg one is the most curious and has a very roo personality to me

I can’t tell with either of the grey ones!

I feel like they all have frazzled/unruly head poofs and I can’t tell if the combs are U or V shaped. Probably gonna get them feather tested next week and I’ll def share the results here once I get them back!

Size and amount of leg feathering are not determining factors for sexing chicks at that age. It's all in the combs, but so far I'm not seeing much development in any of them. I think it's just going to take longer with these. Watch the combs closely in the meantime. Those that get some size and height in their combs in the near future will most likely be males.
