We will set our chicken eggs at 12:00pm on Wednesday, Dec. 11th so our hatch day (Day 21) is Wednesday, Jan 1st. Another way to look at it is in hours. Wednesday, 12/11 at 12pm(noon) is 0 hours. 12/12 at 12am is 12 hours and 12pm (noon) on 12/12 is 24 hours. 24 hours = 1 day or Day 1 of incubation. When you read or hear "lock down or stop turning" on Day 18 it means after the full 24 hours of Day 18 has gone by you stop turning. So that would mean that Day 18 ends on Sunday 12/29 @11:59am. Day 19 starts @ 12:00pm (noon) Sunday and lockdown begins. Day 20 starts @ 12pm(noon) on Monday and Day 21 starts @ 12pm(noon) on Tuesday and ends on Wednesday @11:59am. So on Wednesday at 11:59am you have had 21 days (each consisting of 24 hours) of full development.

How to clean your incubator:

Whatever you use, rinse it well and some people put it in the sun to dry. That might not be an option this time of year.
Again, Keep the electronics dry.

Someone in this thread recommends using peroxide.

I'm hoping to join in again! This hatch-a-long will mark the 1 year anniversary of my very first hatch! I still call those chickens my "New Year's Day coop". I may have to come up with a new name...

Oh boy its almost that time again already. I was just thinking about this hatch along today. I have yet to join in previous years. I think this year I may join in the fun.

I was and it was really fun. I told myself no hatching until february... Im already geting the itch though lol. Im sure I will join just dont know what I will set. My hens are all on strike except the bantams and I dont plan on hatching any more bantams any time soon. I was also thinking of setting for a Christmas hatch also. I did it last year and it caused some big excitement at my house on Christmas eve for all my Christmas guests. I host for our family every year.

That is a great idea!

I am working on lining up eggs to hatch too. I want to hatch Blue Egg Layers from the UofA but they are not laying. Lights will be set up soon so hopefully the will get going.

If not, I have been watching some Rhodebar auctions....

Rhodebars sound good!

Ideally Id like to hatch some Cream Legbars eggs but they wont be laying quite yet, my pullets are only about 18 weeks old. Hopefully I will get a few sporadic eggs from my other hens. If not I have been eying some eggs in the buy/sell/trade section. I also know of someone local to me that has some nice quality Dominique. I may message her.
