Americaunas?

Ameraucanas are a pure breed. TSC sells "Americanas" If you paid less than 10 bucks a chick, then it's an Easter Egger, but so what? they lay beautiful colored eggs too.

I bought these two at tractor supply, they were labeled americaunas. Are they true americaunas? If they are is there any way to tell which kind and is it possible to tell the gender this early on? Thanks!

There are some breeds in which ALL chicks feather out as "female" and other breeds where ALL chicks feather out as "male" and some where it's completely random.

The ONLY time you can sex a chick by wing feathers is if someone carefully selected the parents--mother must have the "male" feathering, father must have the "female" feathering for it to work right. (And if you tried to sex those parents by their feathering, you would have them exactly backwards!)

Yes, but chickens are truly a backwards hobby!

No, Ameraucana are a pure breed that come in a few different accepted colors, they have other traits that they must meet too. They also lay blue eggs and have a pea comb.
