My one bobtail Cochin egg hatched yesterday. However, I’m not at all certain it’s actually a bobtail…she’s just so dark The breeder assures me that she is, but I’m very skeptical!

Still a beautiful baby. I've had yellow chicks turn out black as adults, so... Give it time

I'm a little late posting but i set my first ever incubation around the 12th. Started with 12, have 10 looking really good, and one hatched early today!

When they were first set

After candling the first time at 9 days i decided on adding more eggs after i made a hatch box to lockdown and safely hatch the pippers
This is the hatch box i made. Cooler, lightbulb, thermostat, and not in the picture but a grate on the bottom to put a bowl of water in for humidity

I guess i have some real early birds, 2nd one has hatched!

Well I lost a chick. One of my assisted hatches started getting lethargic and refusing food, and ended up dying last night. I am hoping it was just some kind of birth defect, but just in case, I am putting some coccidiosis meds in the water. Fingers crossed it was nothing contagious to the other chicks.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that! Poor baby. At least it had a chance to hatch and experience the world, even if just for a short while.

This one was the first out, and also the sassiest so far lol. Most likely a silver lace wyandotte/rhode island red
