Hello everyone this spring I’m hoping to get 4 new hens
1 will be a blue/silver maran, 1 barnevelder, one Orpington and one hen I need help Deciding.

Question number 1
Does anyone have any Orpingtons that go broody often, or any of the other breeds listed above?
If you do what color are the Orpington?

Question number 2
Does anyone know a breed that lays white eggs and and goes broody? Or just a medium size hen that layes white eggs
Not silkies my hens are too mean for them.

I've had Chocolate, Black, Blue, Splash, Silver-laced, Mauve, and Recessive White Orpingtons all go broody. They handle smaller numbers of eggs better despite being larger birds. They tend to break eggs until they have about 6. Mothering abilities like with any chicken can be hit or miss.

My Sicilian Buttercups go broody, weirdly enough.

2 of my Buff Orpingtons are very broody right now. As soon as they see an egg, they’re both settling into that same nesting box.
