Are summer chicks just as good as spring chicks?

I've read somewhere that some chickens won't lay eggs if they weren't spring chickens. We have spring chickens already, but need to make our coop bigger anyway, so we figured we could add some more to our flock. We are looking at Australorps and we live in Ohio. Will the babies still be able to lay eggs when they are old enough?
ETA: I don't remember where I read that and I find it difficult to believe anyway, but I just wanted to be sure.

They will lay when they get old enough... Well unless you have really hard winters and then you might have to wait till spring to start getting the eggs. The only thing that I can think of that would be different is that the store will not have as many breeds to choose from...
I am not sure though. I want to find out!

A local NPIP certified hatchery still has Australorp chicks, so that's why we decided on them.
This last winter was harsh, but the few before that were very mild. The snow doesn't usually stick until after Christmas. so here's hoping.
THanks
