Australorp has a black comb, normal?

Thanks! Looks like we need to add to that thread!

This here is a Sumatra of hatchery quality, not an Australorp.

As for the OP's Australorp with the comb in question - At that age, it is just as I said. . . black colored pullets with extra pigmentation often have black combs like that; they will grow out of it when older.

There is a picture of a hen in the Learning Center under breeds that has a black comb. My pullets still have flesh colored combs but my cockerel is already red. He's looking for a new home if anyone in eastern MO needs a purebred.

Thanks everyone. I hope it stays black so I can at least tell them apart. One has a crooked toe so this will make it easy for me

I don't have any black combed Aussies, but I have some Andalusians that still have black in their combs at 8 1/2 weeks, but they are slowly growing out of black and into red. Seems like it might be something that happens with black breeds?

I have three, 18 weeks old, two have pink-red combs and one has a small black comb. Weird huh? She is big and beautiful though so I will wait to see what happens.
