Hi all,
I am new to chicken ownership and need some help!! Froming reading other posts you all are very knowledgable and I am hoping you can help me!!
Last weekend my husband, children and I stopped in to a local tractor supply to pick up some supplies. A lady had dropped off two chickens, dishes and food to be given to a good home. She did not give the associate much info at all. We have no idea of breed, sex or age! We were planning on starting a flock in spring after researching different breeds and seeing what would be best for us. Our children had other thoughts lol.
We have a coop set up with a fenced in area for them to be. We do want to free range them also. We think they possibly are Australorps but have no idea after hours of looking at chickens online! Any help with breed, age and sex is a huge help!! We want to care for them the right way. We want to add 4 chickens in the spring also so we want to make sure we get the right compatible chickens for them.

I think you have either 2 pullets or a pullet and a roo. 90 percent sure they are australorps. If you hold them every day they will probably be super sweet. In my experience, australorps are realy nice and friendly.
I am so happy! I did look at their vents one is definitely a pullet the other looks like a cockerel. Which is great my husband wanted a rooster if it is. They are warming up to us. I try and hold them at least once a day and pet them. They calm down quickly after I pick them up. Do you know how old they might be?
