don't worry, I put the little fella under the heat lamp right after taking those pics. My silkie baby is about 6 weeks old now and the cat and her/him still get along great.

Question about general chick behavior. Have you known of a 4 week old (now older) chick mothering a smaller chick? Would that behavior point to pullet?

not necessarily i have a silkyxmaran cockeral who mothered my 2 week old chicks when he was 8 weeks. Swwetest chicken ever

I think one of my babies is a dwarf. it hatched the same day as its sibling pictured here. Its wings are now almost longer than its body. My roo is the carrier-- or possibly a dwarf himself. I thought he was just a bantam. I loaned him to a friend and she also had one dwarf-sized.
