I want to share my story of ocean and meadow
Our book is still in progress but I will continue to update their progress along the way
Last Sunday I saw a post in a town an hour away
2 week old emu babies in bad leg shape along with vitamin deficiency
Need a new home as the person couldn’t care for them
This was their second home already
First home there was 4 eggs
All 4 hatched
The lady didn’t take the advice off the breeder and the bator was slippery floor
This caused major leg issues with these 2
She was also in hospital having a scheduled surgery when they hatched
They were in the bator for days
The lady gave them away as she didn’t want broken emu’s
The guy that picked them up did what he knew for chickens
A straw and elastic bands
These guys legs were way to far gone for a simple hobble
It ended up sliding way back and caused legs to form a V shape
Ocean never stood up
Meadow could stand but was not able to walk and both had right knee that faced sideways fully
Hips were way out of line due to all of this
They didn’t eat on their own
I went and picked them up last Sunday
My daughter thought I was crazy as they looked so rough she felt they needed to be euthanized ( she works at a vet clinic )
The next day I took them to my vet
She said let’s try a brace that keeps the feet fully attached but apart
Meadow learned to eat really easy
Ocean wasn’t wanting to eat at all
Her legs hurt so I gave her medicam for 3 days
I also took them to my friend who does therapeutics of facia and Beamer frequency treatments
By Tuesday meadow could stand on her own and by Wednesday she learned to scoot back to poo and forward on her tippy toes
It’s impressive as I’m not sure I could move with my legs taped
By Wednesday evening ocean finally started to eat on her own with me holding her
Once she started to eat she gained more strength
3 sessions with therapy and Friday after her 3rd she stood up on her feet on her own
First time since she was born !
This morning she is standing herself to eat
We do stretching exercises every feed as muscles were not used for 2 weeks
Everyday these times get stronger and show a new milestone
I had to redo meadows foot braces last night and her leg no longer goes straight out to the side
It’s about 75% back to where we t should be
I’m hoping by Wednesday at their next vet appointment her leg will be fully where it should
They will continue going to therapy as well as it’s that treatment that’s truly helping them
I’m lucky to have a friend who owns the therapy who will work on my birds and an amazing vet who never turns down seeing my birds
These 2 had 10 % chance a week ago
They are now about 80-90% chance
I’m sharing our journey as I have read so many negative endings
Birds never made progress
It’s a long road but it’s possible

Meadow is on the left. Ocean is on the right
We have to keep them in this as they do fall over a lot still having the leg braces on
I bring them out every 2 hours to exercise, eat abc drink

Just a little video of how far these two have come in only a week
Ocean will not eat the dry food
Ignore the mess every feed they make one 😂
I’m able to rinse off the traction mats and wipe down or sweep the rubber mats under

This was the ad and the day I got them
Ocean laid like this for a week
I started with them in a sock to keep their legs under them until my vet got them wrapped in the brace / splint
Meadow could stand but the right leg was way out
I have added a few pics from therapy as well
The birds love it
I bet it feels good to have everything move back into place
When I first got them if you touched oceans hips at the top she would cry
Now she is fine with it
