I would like to become a breeder of RIR Bantams. Can someone suggest the best lines to purchase?
I've searched the web for individual breeders, and they are hard to find. I did find one in Arkansas, but they only sell eggs. As for them being a good strain, I wouldn't know.

going through this thread not sure if you continued posting. didn't wanna lose it.how are you cackle babies?how are they laying how many roos and hens did u send up with?

Hello BethanyS: I ended up choosing 7 pullets and one roo for my flock. They were laying well up through the winter. Lost one pullet from broken egg insider her. Two pullets have gone broody and hatched 2 chicks each. To my bad, My 2 lil white Jap blacktail roos are the daddy's to all four chicks... I now have all the RIR's locked in one pen. As of now, none of my RIR's are laying. Soon as I can get some RIR eggs, they'll go under my Jap hens which are beginning to brood. I've got to find out if my RIR Roo is fertile.

Thanks for the quick response! we love our standard RIR and are working toward self sustaining our chickens the bantams are tempting as they have a better feed to egg ratio and smaller birds are more adequate foragers than large breeds. Im glad they do go broody sense incubating is a real pain.I will have to order stock from a hatchery. From what i read about Ducks and other chicken breed Mc Murray has great reviews on productivity. They actually had their Bantam RIR rated at best productivity on the description charts.
