Hello everyone, I wanted to share my coop build with those who like to see new things. If you have any advice please share, I am still learning. :) First off, I created a post 2 years ago introducing myself with my coop build ideas. See old post HERE. However, I had to put it on hold and now I am able to move forward.

I will upload pics below of my progress to date. The coop is inside the barn. It's 5 x 7 and will have an automatic door going out to the run. We had all the materials (except hardware cloth) on hand from leftover projects. On the coop door, I took out the top six panes of glass and replaced with hc. I hope it helps with ventilation. The chicken door has not been installed yet. I still need to create a roost and add better bedding (along with the chicken door) to feel complete with the coop.

The run is 25 x 8 ft. I picked up the 25ft of fence for $40, I thought it wasn't a bad deal and that I could use it for the run. As you can see in the pic, we decided to mount it high since hardware cloth will be added to the bottom half of the run. I ran out of tin for the roof (on the hunt for more) and need to figure out how to complete the ends. I want to add doors on each end (or sides) of the run. Not sure if you can tell from the photos but there is an electric fence on the outside of the run for the horses. At the outside end of the run, about 10 feet from where one of the doors will be, is the gate to the pasture (can't tell in pics). So having the ability to walk through the run is important.

Thanks for looking. I hope this will happily house a few different types of egg layers. :wee

I am finally finished with the run. I let the chicks I picked up from the Tractor Supply menu and polish chicks I purchased from a private seller roam around. Next, I will be putting in the chicken door and complete the roost. 😁

Very nice.

FYI, raccoon can open simple latches such as you have, and barrel bolts. You might want to add something else to the doors to befuddle any coon that wants a chicken dinner.

I have a hasp and carabiner combination on my run door: (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/fuzzis-chicken-journal.1550586/post-26572834)

Thanks for the lock info. The current latch is temp. I am researching something that can be opened from both sides. I also want to add a spring to pull the door closed.

For the most part, I am finished and chicks are staying out there full time. I'm hoping they figure out going through the door at night soon. It's only been 3 days but I have to put them inside then close the door. I am wondering if I need to add another bar at the bottom of the roost. Let me know your thoughts. It's feels nice to be done. :D
