Barred Rock thread!!

Our two 3 week old barred rocks

My chickens are 8 1/2 weeks old now, There is little miss angry from the quoted post above in the coop on the left, its crazy how fast these things grow! My barred rocks are still the most timid of the bunch.

This is my first time having barred rocks and I am loving them. We got 6 chicks to begin with and lost one so when I went to exchange I got one a litttle older and the barred rocks were the only ones that had that option. She ( maybe he, still not sure ) is my favorite! Of course when we went back to get some bedding we ended up with 6 more chicks...4 dark brahma and 2 more barred rocks.

Definitely a she (pullet).

I no longer have barred rock chickens anymore but two of the one I did have were the sweetest chickens I've ever had and that's exactly why I don't have them anymore. They were too docile and ended up getting picked on by other chickens causing them to go blind, every day I'd come to see them they were seperated by this time I would help them find and eat their food they would stand or sit on my feet and kinda coo then they'd sit on my lap and sleep I loved them but I felt bad for them. I would lock them up in a dog crate, one night a raccoon came and opened their door and ate them I was devistated when I went out to see them in the morning. And this is why I no longer have barred rock.

Aww love these chickens, have 3 about 8 weeks old, and 12 about 2 weeks old, 3 were straight run and was hoping for pullets but was thinking they were all cockerels so ordered 10 90% guarantee pullets and they sent me 12!! I think they've got a great temperament and so far the older 3 have done well with the 3 RIR we got at the same time
