Two day old chicks. I bought the eggs and this is my first time hatching out anything. anyway I understand that the pullets have darker markings and a dark eye stripe, the males have light markings and a very light or no eyestripe.

Sounds simple right? Uhhhh...not so much. 6 chicks, 2 are obviously pullets, 1 is obviously a little cockerel, 3 are sort of "inbetween" and I can't tell.

Can anyone help?

First up what I believe is a cockerel:

Pretty sure this must be a little pullet:

But what about this chick? Cockerel or pullet?

And this little one? Boy or girl?

Adorable babies, but you should re-post pics at 8-12 weeks to get a determination...best of luck, they're cuties!

Thanks. I believe these little guys are autosexed at birth, thing is the differences in color aren't as overt as I expected (or maybe I just want to believe I have more than 2 pullets!).

Hoping a bb red oegb bantam breeder will chime in.

Pic 1 is a roo
Pic two is a hen
Pic 3 could be a roo
Pic 4 could be a hen,

Looks like two perfect pairs.
Thanks! I wanted a little roo or two for the flock but having 4 or 5 little roos could be a bit much especially in a community flock!

I have 3 other bantam hens (two of which are raising these babies from shipped eggs).

I raise the SD Old English...but we did have one B.B. Red Hen at one point, and two Red Pyle Hens
