That's a seriously good way to end up in the ER.

Please (as someone who has bear hunted in my younger days) be very VEEEERRRRY careful to make your shot count!!!! Vital organ for certainty or do not shoot it. And have cover you take immediately. Even following a vital shot a bear has enough time and adrenaline to maul or kill a person. Securing things is much better. Please be very cautious!!!!

A wounded but not dead bear is a very dangerous situation for anyone who is inadvertently in its vicinity for weeks following! A single shot gun should not be used.

Fatal bear attacks on humans are becoming more numerous in Canada and the US, especially black bear attacks. The thing that is most disturbing is that the majority of these black bear attacks are not defensive in nature but rather they are predatory or offensive attacks. In the decade from 1980-1989 there were 5 fatal black bear attacks or humans in the USA and Canada. In the decade of the 1990s there were 8 and in the first decade of the 21 Century there were 16 fatal black bear attacks on humans. Black bears tend to attack and eat women about twice as ofter as they attack and eat men. So far in this decade the number of black bear attacks are on track to equal or exceed the 16 fatal attacks recorded from 1/01/2000 to 12/31/2009.

The time when public servants served the public is over, welcome to the future where many public servants greatest desire is to protect their meal ticket, whether that meal ticket is protecting bears acting badly or what ever.

Last year (or maybe the year before) a member of the guinea forum had a bear problem. Their fish & game told them to put up a electric fence and as i recall, told them how to.bait the fence using bacon, ensuring that the bear got a real jolt. You need to have a good ground for the fence to give enough of a shock, but by hanging bacon strips it ensures that the bear will be touching it with its mouth. It worked.

Fish & Game is the sole agency in charge of this..However, it's tough to get any response over a "few chickens"....It's time to upscale the complaints to police, news media, politicians, or city / county MAYOR, VICE MAYOR, & commissioners who have the authority to get those F&G officers off their azzes...You need to start being THE SQUEAKY WHEEL THAT NEEDS GREASE!!!....Step up the fear for YOUR OWN LIFE!! ... Didn't that bear chase you into the house when you came out to investigate???....Start Calling the police every night the bear shows up...They in turn HAVE to bring in F&G....Animal control is for domestic animal complaints, don't bother with them...You need to COMPLAIN & get neighbors to complaign also...The bear deserves a chance to be relocated if allowed, or detered...A Cattle Electric fence charger hooked up to the metal hardware on that door may just be the deterant without running lots of wire......run the wire to all metal parts on door te bear may touch, & wet the ground around the surroundung area outside for a good electrical ground on the bear....If this doesn't work, as a last resort, apply for permit with F&G To shoot the bear....that way they will realize you are SERIOUS!, and maybe try to SAVE THE BEAR, which is their job, not to destroy it!..local TV news stations can sometimes be a spark of motivation to save embarrasment, just like complaining to a city / county commission......Bears are very determined, just like Raccoons...Their brute strength just makes them more able to be destructive with a bigger appetite....Coons have the agility to open just about anything!....Remember the "SQUEAKING WHEEL" needing Grease analogy...It Works....RR

Everyone says electrical fencing...
Electric fences work, but it is in reality drunk driving school for bruins. A bear's hair is so thick that he may go over or through an electric fence without even a tingle. You want to educate the bears that your chicken coop bites back and more painfully than the bear bites. Strips of salt cured bacon (saline) are good electric conductors as is the wet saliva in a bear's mouth. Introduce some juice of the electric kind coursing through the bacon and you will definitely get the bears' attention when he takes a bite of bacon. This is likely highly effective against 90% of the bears out there, what about the other 10%?

Remember, the only law in nature is the law of fang and claw and there are no appeals to a higher court..
