Electric fences work, but it is in reality drunk driving school for bruins. A bear's hair is so thick that he may go over or through an electric fence without even a tingle. You want to educate the bears that your chicken coop bites back and more painfully than the bear bites. Strips of salt cured bacon (saline) are good electric conductors as is the wet saliva in a bear's mouth. Introduce some juice of the electric kind coursing through the bacon and you will definitely get the bears' attention when he takes a bite of bacon. This is likely highly effective against 90% of the bears out there, what about the other 10%?Everyone says electrical fencing...
Excellent adviceLast year (or maybe the year before) a member of the guinea forum had a bear problem. Their fish & game told them to put up a electric fence and as i recall, told them how to.bait the fence using bacon, ensuring that the bear got a real jolt. You need to have a good ground for the fence to give enough of a shock, but by hanging bacon strips it ensures that the bear will be touching it with its mouth. It worked.
