I'm a bit confused! I got 12 chickens that were hatched on April 1 this year. First time chicken owner. 3 RIR, 4 Cochin 1 blue, 1 black and 2 white, 3 buff orpington, 2 Leghorns. A few weeks in we found out that one of the RIR was rooster. Once they were big enough to go out to the coop we noticed that the white Cochins were kinda mean always picking on the others. We thought about getting rid of them but they were just so pretty and we can't tell if it one of them or both. So we keep a close on on them. The rooster has found his place and has been crowing and mating for a few weeks now. But he doesn't with any of the cochins. ( we got our first eggs this past weekend and have gotten 1 every day for one of the leg horns) yesterday I saw one of the white Cochins crow and they did it a few times. Later that night the white Cochin mounted the leghorn and mated just like my rooster. And again this morning. While my leghorn was in the nesting box laying one of the white Cochins stayed right outside the box and crowed. I'm so confused! Is she a he and if she is are they both roosters because they are identical!
