Besides silkies are there other chickens with black skin?
We just aquired a hen that is shaped like a game, has black skin a rather large comb for a game which is black/purple. Her plumage is all black with a small amount of gold under her "chin" and is a fairly large bird?

No... silkies are unique in the only one's with black skin and 5 toes per foot.

Chances are she is a mix with silkie somewhere in the line.

A picture would help determine the breed..

But for you question, No silkies aren't the only breed with Black skin....

Chris

cemani (sp) are ALL black comb skin wattles everything. but those are not in the US. she could be a silkie cross that is very likely do you have any pictures

Silkies most certainly are not the only black skinned bird. . . .

There are a couple strains of Easter Egger with dark skin, not black but quite dark.

There are the Ayam Cemani, VERY rare breed only found outside the US, except there is one breeder I know who had a Cemani cross hen.

There is the Sumatra, which doesn't have black skin per say, but it is dark, almost black, wherever the feathers do not grow.

Does anyone here have a sumatra with black skin? I ordered some for this reason - but no black skin (black feather yes!)

Fla-native,

Do you have a picture? I have black skinned chickens similar to what you're describing. Mine are mutts, but I adore them.
