best brand of chicken feed?

The best we can find around here is Purina Layena but we also mix Flock Raiser and oats along with a 9 grain scratch and a little calf manna. So far this is working great we are keeping an eye on weight to make sure it is not to strong of a mix but the chickens are staying happier and healthier.

Only using Scratch and Peck feeds right now. Doing great with it, but as it is a whole grain and mash feed, it requires some liquid to get the hens to eat the fines. I like it because it is certified non-GMO.

My chickens love Scratch and Peck. I love that it is organic, corn & soy free and nonGMO. It helps that it is local so I don't have to pay to ship though.

(1) Where can I order Fent Feed, blue seal feed or Evergreen feed, chicken feed? There is no local stores my area.
(2) Some member recommend I mix the feed myself. Great idea. I live in Los Angeles. Where can I find all the feeds? Please help!
Thank you!

Kent Feed/Blue Seal can be purchased at Do It Yourself Centers if you have any out there. I think the Blue Seal is a very good feed. Making your own can be complicated to make sure the chickens get all the necessary nutrients.

We're using Bar Ale feed. You can get organic and non GMO as well as regular feed. Go on line and find out a location near you.
i was wondering what are some of the best brands of chicken feeds? our feed store sells a good variety including purina, layena, blue seal, poulin grain, and some other brands. are their any brands to avoid and any brands i should stick to?
We buy Bar Ale Feed. They are only on the west coast. They have organic plus non GMO as well as regular feed. We wanted organic and non GMO and this was the only feed company we could find for this. I would not buy Purina because they don't carry non GMO. I would suggest you scout around for better quality feed.

Love this thread tho I've become confused about which brand to buy now...

I live in Kalamazoo, MI...any fellow chicken and duck friends that buy their food locally? If so, from where and what brand? Thanks! My chickens were born in April 2014 and my mallard ducks were born 10 days ago.

Obviously, I don't want Purina...I AM willing to buy online for a good quality feed.

Thanks...

Try to find out a local feed store or poultry place that carries anything but Purina. Good luck.

I have used Purina for years with no problems. I have also used the new King Freedom feed which has no GMOs and no soy.

Interestingly enough, the specialist bird veterinarian recommends Purina, among other feeds. She considers it a high quality, reliable feed.

Look at the Kent Feeds website; their dealers carry Blue Seal feeds, which include some that don't have GMOs.

I personally have never had a problem with Purina; it was one of the brands recommended by the avian specialist veterinarian.
