best brand of chicken feed?

Look at the Kent Feeds website; their dealers carry Blue Seal feeds, which include some that don't have GMOs.

I personally have never had a problem with Purina; it was one of the brands recommended by the avian specialist veterinarian.
Well, of course any feed store or vet will maybe recommend Purina. My cats eat Purina wet food, darn. Have tried others. I buy the best dry food, not Purina.

Our local feed store put on a free clinic for people who want to raise chickens. Found out it was Purina that was putting on the seminar. So, the only thing we got out of it was video's from Purina.
We left and bought non GMO from our local poultry farm.

The avian specialist veterinarian recommended Purina because it is a very consistent, feed. She referred to it as a high quality feed. I don't think Purina is sponsoring her - most of her practice consists of expensive exotic birds.

Which line of Purina Feeds does she recommend?
I would never feed Purina's low end feed like Flock Raiser, Start and Grower or the Layena chicken feed, to me it's not near as good as other brands on the market and just a low quality feed. Now there Wild Life Feed like there Game Bird Chow is good but I think that is mostly do to it being a lower end version of the Mazuri feed that there partner Land-O-Lakes puts out. The Mazuri line of feed that Land-O-Lakes puts out is high end feed and a lot of zoos feed it.

I only have 3 choices where I live, Purina, Nutrena and Arizona Brand. I had heard bad things on here about the Arizona not being consistent with their ingredients/quality. I am currently feeding Purina but am also hearing bad things about them now.  Is anyone familiar with Nutrena?

Nutrena works well for me. I also use bomgaars feeds(a Midwest farm store).

You do know that Purina PetCare (pet food) and Purina Mills (livestock feed) are owned by two different companies?
Purina PetCare is owned by Nestle and Purina Mills is owned by Land-O-Lake.

A friend and I went in together on 125 broiler chicks that arrived last week. Only one was DOA. We each lost one that night. Then, of my remaining 19,all remained extremely active and healthy while she lost 2-3 per night for 5 nights before letting me know. She thought it was the chicks but no. I'm feeding mine Hiland Naturals while hers was on Purina flock raiser. Hers appeared to be having heart attacks. Now that she's switched feed back to her usual from a local place she hasn't lost any for a couple days...

That's a consideration on the line of feed. Like anything feed you can buy cheap, moderate or expensive and you get what you pay for. We use Bar Ale feed, but it's only local in Northern Calif. They have their regular line, plus organic and non GMO.

Start and Grow and Layena for laying hens.
