Big Gov't STINKS...Cobb County, GA takes away MORE rights from us...

It makes me angry & sad when people are mean to others like that. Really, what on earth are those chickens in his back yard hurting? Absolutely nothing. The ones complaining & making a stink are just being ugly. They need to get a life and worry about themselves and not what everyone else is doing. A barking dog is way more annoying than a few backyard chickens ever were. Now maybe if he had a bunch of noisy crowing roos.....

So sorry about your chickens! :'( Hopefully you can find a way to keep them or something. Good luck if you try again to the the law changed!

Sorry to hear that Cobb County isn't joining cities like Asheville NC and Portland OR that allow backyard hens.

If you can round up some like-minded people in your community, perhaps do a small newsletter or bumperstickers, you night be able to get some changes made.

The folks in Asheville have stickers that say "We Still Lay." This was a humorous takeoff on another sticker that said "We Still Pray."

I'm very sorry to hear that. My mom has 3 (soon to be 5) hens in unincorporated DeKalb, which doesn't allow "livestock" on properties less than 1.25 acres. We have 1 acre. Neighbors love them, though, and that's the only way the county would ever find out about them.

Poultry is not "Livestock".

Livestock refers to one or more domesticated animals raised in an agricultural setting to produce commodities such as food, fiber and labor. The term "livestock" as used in this article does not include poultry or farmed fish;

Any laws where chickens are prohibited through using the general term "livestock", could be argued that the law does not apply to poultry. Maybe there already is precedent terms in previous court rulings that legally define "livestock".

Terms are often specifically defined in ordinance and zoning, with common dictionary definitions used when a term is not defined. Some places classify poultry as livestock; others do not.

I pasted by the house that got the chickens taken away and they had a banner saying "CHICKENS ARE PETS TOO!" I totally agree with them!!!!!

i completely agree with the reality that dogs barking incessantly at all hours of the day and night are far more a nuisance. my chicks are calm, quiet, loving, and helpful to the environment. Yet, I am still having my four sons be on the down low about us having chicks because I never know who will be the neighbor to 'call it in' to the local authorities...although it is legal for me to have them.
