This is Blackymac, a Black Australorp about 4-5 weeks old. Bought as a hen chick, though I'm having my doubts. The phone camera is not the greatest, along with the fact that the bird is flighty as all get out. Was trying to get pix of feather shape, as I heard this can be useful. It is taking longer to feather out than my Buff Orpington and Barred Rock. They are ready to graduate to the coop. Blackymac still has fluff in spots. Any opinions? Thanks!

If it's any help...My black australorp was so quick to feather. Faster than any of my other birds (different breeds) even the ones who were older. As a complete novice I thought that meant she was a he. At about 14 weeks, it's pretty clear she's a hen. But mine has a black comb, not sure what that means.

Thanks for all the replies! I guess my suspicions were justified. I have a home for him with a friend's relative. I cannot have roos in my town. Dangit, I was looking forward to having a trio of good layers! Ah well!
