Hi all!

I have some questions on breeds for my little rooster flock. For background info, there are two black copper marans and two Langshans in the group of chicks I bought. One Langshan is a hen and is not pictured, she stays separate from my rooster flock with my main flock.

These guys are about 12 weeks old… The woman I got them from said that my large one with the pretty tail feathers is a Langshan and my black one with no tail feathers (yet) is a black copper maran. She also said the greyish one is a black copper maran. I have my doubts, though. I think my grey boy is a Langshan. And my two other ones are black copper marans. Is it possible for the boys of the same breed to develop differently? Their tail feathers are so different at the same age that it is a little confusing to me.

(Also, in the pictures is my blue ameracauna… I don’t have any questions about him.)

Thanks for any help!

I think you're right, the langshan is the blue one. Marans have orange eyes and langshan should have black or dark brown.
Oh, I didn’t even think about eye color! That’s very helpful. I send her pictures about 4 weeks ago when she identified the breeds for me (I took off their leg bands too early and the hairy legged chickens were hard to tell apart at a young age)… so maybe it’s easier to tell now!

The ones with the brown are copper marens. Langshan are solid colors
