Hello! We have a Black Star cockerel we have raised since he was a day old. He's a magnificent boy! We also have a Rhode Island Red pullet who hatched around the same day as him. They have spent all of their life together and get along great. She has begun laying and we've seen him mating with her a few times, dancing for her and so on. If I incubate some of her eggs, what should we expect from their offspring? I assume scientifically they'd be 75% RIR and 25% barred rock but would these be desirable chicks for further laying and/or breeding?

We keep our chickens for eggs and the enjoyment of raising them in our backyard. We also have Welsummer pullets but no male Welsummer.

Yes, the hens would be good layers for sure. They would be similar in size to RIRs but maybe a tad larger.

Male black sex links carry one gene for barring, so 50% of the offspring would be barred, but the chicks would not be sex links. Both males and females could be barred.
