I have made some observations and wondered if anyone can elaborate on this..

I had my blue copper roo (see avatar) in with a mixed flock of black and blue coppers
for a couple of months this year.

After growing out his chicks I find the following..

Moms: none of the blues show copper, the blacks show nice copper.

Boy Babies: All show nice copper and are growing out to be nice looking boys
both blue and black ones.

Girl Babies: The ones that are black copper are beginning to show copper
The ones that are blue copper are not yet showing any copper.

everyone is now about 2 1/2 months or so..

so why is my blue copper boy not passing on the copper to any of his blue
copper offspring, Remembering that some of these blue copper offspring
came from a cross between the black copper females showing nice copper
and the blue copper male showing nice copper.....

I am making this observation on the basis of about 15 chicks

Did you happen to mark the blue offspring that came from the blue male mated to the black females? IE., How much copper color do the Black Copper moms show? Is their copper the correct tone? Is it dark like mahogany? Chances are you are dealing with melanisers. Also, at 2.5 months they could still change, some may not show their copper at all or they probably will only show very little amounts. This to me, indicates melanisation. I deal with this in my birds.
No worries, your male is passing on the copper genetics to his offspring, but melanisers will hide or mask the color, however, melanisers do not always cover or hide the color completely. Sometimes, it will allow a very small amount of color to show.

I hope this makes sense as I am having a difficult time putting my thoughts into words this morning and if I have confused you, I hope that someone else that can explain more efficiently comes by and elaborates more for us both. :)

Do you think this is a Blue Copper Maran? They told me he was a Wyandotte. But he looks like a Maran to me.

I hatched out 6 Splash and 3 are boys. One of them has a darker gray/blue tone to him, especially around his head and neck, he is also the biggest but has the least leg feathering. Is this darker color tone indicative of anything?

3 - largest but darkest and least feathered on shanks
