Central Indiana
Our weather has been funky here in central Indiana since our Nuggets (Buff Orpington) decided to go broody. I had three try to go broody at once and created a pen inside in run to break them: Birdy Broiler our son calls it.

Noisy Girl our nugget kept getting out, no matter what I did. So we left her, I talked to a friend who had fertilized eggs from a Black Australorp rooster and Australorp & Orpington hens.

We let Noisy Girl sit, and she stayed from Tue-Sat when I got the eggs and popped them under her. She took them right away, nestling them under her.

We were certain on the eggs and viable, but had read in here eggs would be okay up to a week, so on Wed my friend had started collecting. We put 12 under her. (Nov 11)

Day 5 ( Nov 16) candle, saw something, yay! So difficult to tell by pictures on net verses real life.

Day 8 (Nov 19) had a cracked one that I tried to fix as I saw an embryo in it... Poor thing, I busted it instead. Shit happens. And my son and I marked 4 known duds

Day ten, (Nov 21) checked, 2 for certain duds, 7 embryos and 2 no sure. Also had to fight a Brahma from trying to go broody and kick Noisy Girl from her nest. Broody Jail broke her but not before she threw a fit for husband and son that night to go into coop (oops sorry! Lol)

It's been a fun adventure so far, yes I know my family was like "don't let em broody in winter yada yada" it wasn't planned, she's barely 29 weeks old(rougly 7 months). The day I noticed she was all fluffy and noisier than usual (hence her name haha) she's always been one of the ones to sit on me, peck at me good naturedly, and all around follow me around.

As I talk to each girl, and mess with them on the nest, I've had no issues checking them or her. I even had to create a little corner for when it's closer to time in the pen that's attached to coop to give her and chicks space. Fingers crossed!

Will keep posted!

Ceramic heat and incandescent bulb aren't on yet just set up and ready. It's still fairly decent outside and inside pen. Cardboard on walls is so I can enjoy being out with the girls and not freeze my tushy off lol (yes we know the risks had this setup when we moved the checks outside this past March, also have reptiles)

Temp near her nest box is 33f, (have a digital thermometer beside her, another on on coop edge) temp outside pen is 30f feels like 19f because of wind which is blocked from coop/pen, low is supposed to be 22f at 8 am when she is generally off and eating lol but all look good

Had extra help while I was preparing the broody pen for Mama and chicks! Turned the broody jail into an extended area for them to mingle for the first few days or so. Have two "nests" under where Noisey Girl is. Used cardboard for bottom wire escapes lol
