building paradise for the birds

Pics
so this is a place where I get some of my birds he is very credible and has been breeding pheasants for over 35 years...he also got stock from louie bousche...not sure on the last name spelling...sorry if I messed that up...louie was supposedly the first person with the peach golden...and as for the silver golden I guess this guy from Minnesota and one other guy was the ones that first had these...louie is passed on I believe in 2010 and the other guy the one with the silver goldens in no longer in birds for some reason...anyone that is reading this can now get an understanding why there is not really any credible resources about these birds...not sure on all the breeds so here is some pics..that I got with his permission....and my two lady amhersts came from this beautiful lady Amherst pheasant...so I cant wait...yepper anyways to the pics.... im sure tony can fill us in on what each of these birds are called....I only remember so many of them ....and this was only about ten percent of his stock...can only stick so much on here you know...he estimates that he has approx....60 pens...yep 60...anyways hope you enjoy the pics..... impeyans blue mutant pheasants....I will be replacing my ringneck with the offspring of these birds...cant wait for that...they are so flighty... stock from louie....this would be a peach...this breeder has also had salmon goldens as well... inflight cant remember the name..i believe it was coco...common tony help me out on this one another picture of this bird...I guess you have to feed it a lot of grass..cause It loves grass I guess....very cool Mohawk thing on its head tho...I might get some of these as well...not sure more stock from louie.....notice the female all white...and the peach golden was so bright the camera could barely pick up the colors....so cool this is the same two birds just got the camera to catch the colors THE MOHAWK.....mom got to see all these birds when she came over from Wisconsin on thanksgiving...right mom and OFCOURSE...MY NEW THING...HE HAD THREE DIFFERENT KINDS OF SILVER GOLDENS....EACH ONE HAD DIFFERENT SMALL ATTRIBUTES ON THEM...THIS ONE IS WHERE MY STOCK CAME FROM....JUST IN CASE A CERTAIN PERSON IS LOOKING....SO VERY CREDIBLE AND DEFF NOT A YELLOW GOLDEN THIS ONE IS SOME TROPICAL PHEASANT...HE SAID HE IS NOT VERY NICE.. more birds and more birds and more birds and more...this is the parents of my two female lady Amherst that I got look at the size of that tail.....wowzer this is a splashed female with a peach golden dark throat golden....these birds are so dark even the females are super dark.....very cool looking I want some....but man I can only build so many coops....its winter.....grrrr...patience I guess...I will get there darkthroat yes and THE SILVER GOLDEN....MAN SO PRETTY LOOK AT HOW WHITE THAT BACK IS ANOTHER PIC this I believe was the fifth pair of peach goldens he had....he also mentioned that when you do breed the peaches you will not have a full breed true ..you will get some peaches and some will be not peach well hope this trip to the pheasant zoo was helpful and exciting for you people as it was for me...it was like 400 miles today...and glad gas was 1.98 to 2.09....cause that helped...so one with the work I go...I got some things to do and then to work on the finishing of the incubation station

Dang it you got me looking at a bizzillian pictures of pheasants I had NO idea there were so many out there.

My neighbor Tom used to raise them in a HUGE aviary on his property ... aeons ago. He talks about them now and then...

I can always plan on some sort of adventure when I go to Michigan to visit Birdman and his lady! Love all those pics. I was very intrigued with his set up when we went down there and love all the bright colors in every one of his birds. I'm sure Birdman that once your setup is complete, some of these birds will be added to your collection. As your motto has always went, go big or go home--I know you will go big!!! Have a super day.

I bought six peafowl from sault saint....lol...great guy thanks breck....five white peafowl and one male ib pied peacock

well that's great news...I hope you do well with the hatch...I cant get those kinds of ducks..i don't really like how they look...
we are going to get the runners from a lady in Gaylord this season...they are funny to watch when they run....they run so fast they fall on their face...lol
i dont like how muscovy look either frrench whites i like better...what i do like about all muscovy ducks is that they dont quack. They are almost silent you have to be about 4ft away to hear them vocally making any noise and then it is just a hum or a trill kind of noise. I also like that the French Whites get up to 15lbs and have way less fat, you dont have to cross cut and sear the breasts like regular ducks. Muscovy is compared to veal more then duck in texture, fat, and flavor. They also make good broodies and can sit on 2-3 dozen or more eggs at once and successfully hatch out 98% or more of those eggs. They also lay 190+eggs in the typical 40 week laying season we have and will want to go broody 3-4 times a year. Muscovy hens will also share nests and take over nests if another hen gives up brooding or is gone to long. They also will eat every fly/bug/mosquito they can see/find. So in exchange for the slightly poor appearance they have alot of pros.

i am however getting cayuga, mandarin, magpie, call, and pekin ducks sometime this next year lol.

i know alot of people who dont like muscovy because of their red masks but when they see them in person and how big they are compared to their quack quack duck they start to think well maybe the mask isnt so bad lol.

Birdman. Great posts about the dogs. I also have a pit integrated with my flock. 4 ducks 7 hens. He loves them. Keeps everything from bears to ravens out.and I love him for it. Kudos on the game kill for sure
most people are afraid of them...and it doesn't really matter what dog you have out there most animals wont bother if you have a dog or two patrolling especially if the cages are in a fenced in yard and then they have more fencing and wire to go thru...I have had a couple of coons dig under the outside fence perimeter but once they got under the regular fence and realized there were two dogs they turned right back around or I even watched one run in circles around the greenhouse cause it didn't know how to get back out...I had to put the dogs inside they were going crazy and I had to escort that poor coon out of the fenced in area...

the ups and downs that we have been thru since the move has made us stronger...everyday I look at the picture of grandpa and it keeps me motivated....

(just in case if you are just now starting to read the thread and havnt had the time to read the whole thing....this is my grandpa and he always pushed me to be the best, to be the biggest, and always wanted me to help him on the farm...and this thread is dedicated to him....I remember that day...we went out for pizza....and just couldn't figure out why I would wear such goofy sunglasses so he wanted to try them on....
I hope this thread so far has been motivational, educational, and pleasurable for all the bird lovers out there...gotta go and thank you for watching
birdmans flying away now to work

well its dark and I got a couple of things done...I located two old fridges which will be here by next weekend so I can start that project...and never got that ride to the lumber yard so im having it droped off it will be way easier to just pay someone and not worry about it...so I shall be placing the order soon...so when I introduced the lady Amherst to the new pens they both different pheasants were being aggressive towards each other...only the females thru the wire....so I put up some poly plastic about two feet high...so on with the program...
well I split the mealworms into two colonies and I have added to the colonies apples cut in half....the worms seem to be eating like three carrots a day...

where did you get the mealworms and how hard is it to raise them? I'd like to raise them for my chickens.
