OK, today, i am the Debbie downer. in the last 24 hrs ( OK maybe 36) I have

* told people egg shape sexing does not work, and trader joes eggs do not specialize in hens ( that was creative thinking, however, somene should hire her)
*told people unless you are breeding for wing sexing, it does not work, ( this one always get people riled, but no one ever keeps chicks long enough to check, they just don't get too many angry calls so they assume they are always right lol)
* added no, spur sexing and hanging chicks by the necks ALSO don't work, *** people. ( some people can comb sex, however , those people impress me)
* gone on THREE different threads on 2 different continents and told people langshans do not lay a purple egg, and right now no one is successfully getting a great mother/daughter transference of that bloom, ( the marans people think a large proportion of the bloom and brown genes come from dad, isn't that depressing??) didn't call the wrath of Debbie down on ANY of them!
*told people the i stuff I can never spell is unreliable for mites and internal parasites ( this always gets people saying Ive used it for 40 years you don't know what you are saying... that sentence explains itself)
* told 2 people all their cream legbars were boys
*lost my stuff at a VET saying sulmet should always be your first resort for cocci. He does not believe the Maraks Maunal ( but from a link, not my spelling) may get banned from that page.
*politely said if you can SEE mites crawling everywhere on your chicken, a de bath is not going to do it ( that chicken died today :((()
* told someone the rooster HAS to breath, and the should not gasp while in the collar ( that may get the collars banned, this guy killed a few roosters trying to get then to stop crowing, rather then muffle it, GAA PEOPLE)
* told people there is not one wormer that that gets all worms, check what you have if your worried.
* answered 1 million incubation questions with WEIGHT YOUR EGGS CHECK YOUR AIRCELLS CALIBRATE YOUR THERMOMETER. over.. and over,, and over... I cant tell your right humidity, lets not fight lets LOOK AT THE DARN EGGS. I'm going to tatoo this on my Internet forehead.

* told at least 9 people i can't sex silkies until they are l 6-9 months, so no hens for you! also, there is no straight run hens.
* explained why you are not likely to get "pure" showgirl eggs, and the silkie chicks that come out are not showgirl mutts ( but I liked that one, I might start calling my silkies that)

( I also told a fair few people not to try and buy a house in silly valley with an fha loan, but you people likely do not care about that one, ha!)
This is what happens when Mario goes onsite and I'm home alone on the computer. I think you are the last people on the Internet who like me!

Too good! And I do like you! Kern

Been there for all of that too!

I have had a few recently where I made the mistake of thinking they wanted advice--instead they wanted support for their way of doing things. The one that got me was the person that had mixed weight loss between shipped eggs and locally collected hatching eggs. My suggestion that adding 5 to 10% humidity might help was greeted with a comment about that messing up the local eggs. Humidity was at 35% in the incubator--going to 40 or 45% would not hurt her local eggs....

Did you get a bunch of ovations?

Sometimes I think there should be a way to Gibbs Smack or Face Palm these people directly on the internet. I know we all do dumb things on occasion but some people seem to be blessed with an inordinant amount of stupid. (Not meant for everything on your list but the Rooster Collar and the incubator stuff gets me)

Eggs must be the most natural and long lasting food in nature. I candled some eggs I bought from a friend after 8 days in the incubator. 16 of the 18 eggs were clears. Not wanting to waste them I hard boiled them to use to feed my chickens, and I am amazed that they look like fresh eggs after that long on simmer. I chopped them up and the chickens really enjoyed them. The eggs really didn't look any different than fresh eggs, except my mind tells me they shouldn't be any good. Is this something you all do? Kern
Yes!

It amazes me when someone finds a hidden nest and tosses the eggs because they may have been outside for a couple of days. Non fertile eggs can be good in the incubator for a couple of weeks sometimes.

You just keep being a Downer! My philosophy: If you don't want an honest answer; don't ask me the question! and unfortunatly Ron is right; some people don't want to learn; they just want sympathy or validation

I will be there showing birds.

What are you showing? If the opportunity arises; I'd love to put a face to all the wonderful info you share.

Wow, you must be mentally drained!

I accidentally stepped on a hidden nest and nearly threw up from the smell. I had to avoid that part of the yard for over a week the rotten egg smell was too strong. If I don't know when it was laid I'm not eating it.
Yes!

i do! my new thing is to smash them all in a ziplock and sous vide them, since some are older then 8 days. its like an egg pie, they love it. They may or may not be able to digest much egg, so i do not do it a lot, but they love it!

ha, not many here, BYCers listen a little more. I did get a chuckle about trying to convince someone to ask for purple Moran chickens on the Marans page, I'm a bit evil. She said she had learned he lesson and would only be asking for morans with a s, ha! Crazy breed people are crazy, yo! that could go on the list too, but I never am allowed to tease much about spelling errors, payback would get me in 9 seconds.

Hows the hatch a long going? I have been trying to get ready for job hunting and staying away from fun time sucks like the HAL.

the roster collar one really got me too. I answer EVERY question I see on those because they are not being advertised accurately. I still tell Lauren she should have called it low crow. people think it will keep them silent ( not true) or it keeps them from exercising their natural desire to crow and is cruel ( also not true) . Plus when you first put the ting on, and they freak out run backway-rds and yell the chicken equivalent of I'M DYING, if you compare it to putting on a hen saddle its less scary. Obviously, if they go blue and fall over, your doing it wrong people!!

I would have freaked if I had not seen my bresse hens run around screeching for 1/2 a day trying to scrape her saddle off. she was NOT pleased with em!

Can't say I've pulled any from the incubator but I hard-boil the "extra" eggs I pull from under my broodies and feed them back to the chickens and dog; so far they've all looked "normal".
