If you're not sure, call your vet. Only take medical advice from a licensed professional when dealing with cases this critical. If you're this worried and stressed out, call your clinic and talk to a nurse, they should be able to, at the very least, give you some advice on what to do.

Detached beak...? No, wherever did you get that idea? I mean I can't see the little guy, just a silhouette. It just hasn't made any progress since the first pip, is all. And that was 14 hours ago. Do I still need to extract it? Or just peel off a bit of the shell for a better look? You seemed rather frantic, so I've got my nerves up, as well...
