Can I trim my Silkie's crest?

We really don't plan on showing her. She is our pet. My daughter's want her to have "friends" more than anything. Do you think her poor vision could be causing her to stay in the coop? She really wanders around very carefully like you would if your eyes were closed.

Just make sure you do not hit any pin feathers or you might draw a little blood.

You don't have to go scissor-happy on her. If you just get rid of the feathering that is directly blocking her vision, literally right around her eyes, that will be more than enough. If she is bearded, than you might wish to trim down some of the feathering on the top of her muffs, too. You don'd need to 'cut off' any feathers on her top-hat, JUST around her eyes. As said before, if you're planning to exhibit her, than no trimming.

I say give her a mowhawk

but whatever you do it will all grow back after her next molt and if it makes her a happy chicken, mission accomplished.
