Can you tell the sex of a chick before its hatch?

Some people say you can sex chicks before they hatch, or even get in incubated, by looking at the shape of the egg. Longer, pointy eggs = male and fatter, round eggs = female. I honestly haven't had much success with this method, which I've tried of out curiosity, but I do know a few people who choose their hatching eggs using this selection method and they all claim they get more hens than roosters.
