Catch a chicken.....

I've only had my girls, both 10 months old, since Friday, and I kept them penned until yesterday. Both were pasture raised as part of a much larger flock that their owner has been selling off before he moves to another state.
They free ranged in my backyard for a few hours yesterday and all day long (under my watch) today. At dusk, both the girls (Liberty, a Speckled Sussex and Justice, a Silver Laced Wyandotte) came right up to get a treat of apples, collards, fresh corn, and tomatoes from a pie tin. After a few excited pecks I placed the tin in the run of their coop and they walked right in, no chasing required. They finished their treat and walked up the ramp to bed down for the evening.
I must simply be lucky or this was something they have always done.
But I'm a Marylander, so there was a crab net close at hand, just in case.
:)
