Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hi there,

Going fairly well I suppose. Rescued two chickens who turned out to be terrible bullies to my hand raised chickens but I persevered as best I could. I called them Bossy and Boots lol. Boots ended up having a strange disease and we looked after her needs and gave her a good life until eventually she had to be put down. After maybe three years ish, Bossy started crowing at 5am constantly and throughout the day this year so went down to join a larger flock south of here where she now has a boyfriend and is apparently very happy.

My two originals ladies are well. One is moulting atm and looks like someone should call the RSPCA on me hahaha but that's normal. I have also started a veggie patch in the last year so they are enjoying the excess and greens.

I moved the girls into a much bigger house that has a raised coop with a slide-out tin floor last year, meaning I could get rid of the council-mandated concrete slabs on the ground. This has now completely eliminated rats from my backyard, as the slabs merely provide somewhere they can hide. So that's been really wonderful.
Otherwise, we just tonk along here doing our thing. :)

I hope everyone else is doing well!
Thanks for the update! Glad things are going well! Hope to see you around more!

Hello all. I sold the homestead in AZ and relocated across the country to the north. Finally!!
So sold all my farm animals. Including chickens. I finally got some chicks and they are doing well. Only about a month old now. Also some homing pigeons (for gun dog training(pointing))Been real busy with being a single dad to a 2 yr old and work. So not much for YouTube content or anything like that. Yet. Hope you all are well. Seller of home left me a chicken coop project thankfully.
Thanks for stopping by with an update! Good luck with your new flock!

We are doing okey. This is a old picture. One of the Leghorns died during a hurricane but everyone else is fine. She went to come down off the roast and a big gust of wind slammed her into the shed and broke her neck. The one that looks like a Gold Campine died of old age. I had her for about 12 years.

Sorry for your loss! Love the photo

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)
Yup -- still here, though I've only got the one hen left. She's 5 years old and doesn't lay anymore, but she's a good old girl and she gave an egg a day since she started, so she's earned a decent retirement. ;-)

Heyo, pretty much on auto-pilot right now. Got the coop and run hardened against predators (in the past multiple racoons, a mink, a labrador). Set up lighting over the winter for egg production and little or no deleterious effects to the ladies.

Looking forward to the end of freezing temps so I can swap out the heated 5 gallon bucket for water with my auto waterer. I've seen some production models but I just use a kitty-litter bucket, 4 nipples, and a swamp cooler float fill valve. Awesome not having to fill water all summer!
