From what I've read, many of the older "heritage" breeds are far less skittish and much more "friendly" then some of the breeds that were hybridized to increase egg production, such as the sex link and the leghorn. If you want a pet, stick with the heritage breeds. If you're looking for top egg production, stick with the sex link and the leghorn. .
