What plants grow like crazy in cooler temps that chickens like to eat? Amaranth, wheat, rye, oats, alfalfa, cabbage, cucumber, kale, lettuce , spagetti squash. ....... Would like to find things that grow alot with little effort.

If you are okay with your chickens eating weeds, then dandelions are great! My hens love that, and they grow like crazy in Maine, so I’m sure they would in Alaska too.

My hens eat a fair bit of fireweed that they forage themselves. They eat the leaves and will jump for the flower buds.

They love chickweed which is great because my Mom gives me huge bags of it that she weeds out of her garden.

They like kale, but so do I! I live in a northern climate, same latitude as AK and have had good luck growing barley. It can be planted in early May and grows well.

I wouldn't bother with cucumber or squash personally because they would require a greenhouse or cold frame to produce in this climate.
